God's Church Within

Welcome

I’ll bet you would like to know why I named this online church “God’s Church Within.”  Well, I would just love to tell you.  So, here we go!

God's church resides within each and every believer.  1 Corinthians 6:19  “What?   Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?”  We spend our Christian lives trying to find God in a natural church of brick and mortar.  When in fact, if we read the bible we discover that Jesus not only never built a natural church, he was persecuted by the churches of his time.  Jesus told Peter in Matthew 16:18  “And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock, I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.”  After Jesus had risen, Peter continued Christ’s ministry in the same manner that Jesus taught, until the day he was also crucified.

Please don’t get me wrong, I’m not anti-church.  I think that if God's people feel led to fellowship together by starting or joining a church, then that is exactly what they should do.  However, we need to have a little perspective as to where the real church was intended to be.  Ephesians 2:19 “Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints, and of the household of God; 20 And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief cornerstone; 21 In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord: 22 In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.”  This is not a physical building but a building of God’s people.

When we put too much stock in a building or one individual, we tend to set up idols to worship instead of worshiping God.  This is just human nature and is not intended to be a criticism of one group or another.  The Lord also knew this, 1 Samuel 16:7 “But the Lord said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart.”  Knowing that we are God’s church and that he resides in us will help us keep our eyes on him and not on man.  Man can be wrong and mislead you, even if not intentionally.  God has no faults or frailties that can cause us to be mislead.

I do hope this finds receptive hearts.  However, to those of you that find this offensive, try to give it some prayer and read it again.  Maybe you can see into this even deeper than I have.
