The Great Commission

After Jesus was crucified, he came forth from his tomb and gave his disciples a commission to spread his word to the world.  Matthew 28:16 Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

In verse 20, Jesus instructed his disciples to teach everything that he commanded.  Therefore it is impossible to speak of his “Great Commission” without mentioning his greatest commandments.  Mark 12: 30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ 31 The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.”  Jesus wanted his message spread to all of the nations of the world.”  This is also found in Matthew 28:18-20.

The disciples were ordained by Christ to preach.  Mark 3:14  “And he ordained twelve, that they should be with him, and that he might send them forth to preach.”  “Ordain” in the Bible is used to mean set aside and commissioned.  When Jesus gave his disciples a commission, they were set aside for the task.  They were ordained to teach and spread the word of God.  As Christians, we are set aside for that same commission.

2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. 18 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; 19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. 20 Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God. 21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

This does not mean we have to beat peoples doors down or cram the gospel down someone's throat because they are doing something we think they shouldn’t.  Sometimes spreading the word is just as simple as living it.  (Love thy neighbor!)  All the same, we must study God’s word so we can offer truth (In a loving and kind way!) when there is a need.  2 Timothy 2:15 “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”

Remember to be yourself and not a preacher that you like or who someone thinks you should be.  God does not make junk!  You are precious just as you are and not the way you will be someday when you fix this or that!  God doesn’t call the qualified he qualifies the called!  He loves you just the way you are.  Jesus didn’t die for the sin of the blameless, he died for the sin of the guilty.  (Sinners)   That is all of us, including that favorite preacher or that person that wants to change who God made you to be.  Be putty in God’s hands and not mans.
